An Unruly Child is a one-page Doctor Who comic sketch strip story written by David Blyth and illustrated by Eric Reyes. It depicts one potential account of how the First Doctor met Susan
Synopsis[]
On Gallifrey, Division Agent 'Sigma' is summoned to the chambers of chancellor Brolin. Brolin, impressed with Sigma's records, assigns him as the caretaker of his daughter, the lady Larn. whom renegade Prydonians seek to establish as their figurehead upon completing a coup.
Continuity[]
The comic pulls together various strands of expanded universe and established canon to tell it's story, such as using Susan's origin as the relative of a high ranking Gallifreyan from the 20th anniversary Radio Times short story 'Birth of a Renegade', The Doctor going by his academy name 'Theta Sigma', and the revelation that he had success raising two previous 'grandchildren', John and Gillian, who were his companions in the pages of TV Comic.
The strip also provides some potential new insights into The Doctor, that he operated for the Division well into his Hartnell incarnation, and that 'grandfather' was a title bestowed upon him by the Division to better endear him to young Gallifreyans under his care, who would see him as a mentor and elder father figure.
The story also harkens back to one of the earliest known initial plans for The Doctor, that he is a reactionary idealist who wishes to know of the future so that he may destroy it and preserve his world's past and present.
